Celebrity designer couple and fashion mavens Sonam and Paras Modi of SVA fame show us how a marriage can be a kaleidoscope of moments.
Our Little Secret
We met at a common friend’s wedding in Lonavla, after which we started meeting almost twice a week with friends. We got along like a house on fire; it felt so comfortable talking to each other, it was like we were long lost friends. The initial courtship felt more like a game of hide and seek. We didn’t want to tell people yet as we were still getting to know each other.
We would go for drives, coffee, dessert; we both love food, so we enjoyed meals in the best restaurants. Once we started having late night phone conversations, we realised our friendship had evolved and we had connected at a deeper level.
It Was A Whirlwind
A family introduction was arranged; after some hesitation, as it was an inter-caste union (Gujarati and Marwari) they finally agreed. Both families met over dinner and before we knew it, our roka was done. Then the official courtship began—movie and dinner dates, dinners with family and siblings and so on. Wedding preparations were in full swing and we were involved in every detail. We were very specific about what we like and how it should be executed. The wedding was held at the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa in Alibaug; we partied and enjoyed every bit of the function with close friends and family.
It Is Not A War
Disagreements and arguments are fun. It’s through these disagreements that you understand your partner better. It’s best to always be honest about your opinions and priorities from the beginning to build a strong foundation for your life ahead. Whenever we argue, we ensure it’s sorted out before we go to bed. Our first fight was extremely petty. We fought over picking a restaurant for dinner. We love food, so a good meal is very important to us; this also means that most of our arguments are about picking a restaurant or cuisine that we both like.
It Works When You Work
Working together is actually a lot of fun; it never feels strenuous. The immense creativity, and different ideologies and perspectives make the work so much more dynamic. Of course, we hold different opinions, but that is strictly professional. This, in fact, gives us more insight and a sense of reassurance on whether we are moving in the right direction.
It Has Its Pros And Cons
We have come to a perfect understanding of each other over the years. We’re extremely used to being together and spending hours together at work. We understand each other’s ideas and mindset without having to explain much. Also, as we work together, we travel together, which enables us to spend time together. There isn’t any competition; we work in tandem and lift each other up; it makes for a healthy work environment.
