About Me
Sonam and Paras Modi share their marriage mantra…

We met at a common friend’s wedding in Lonavla, after which we started meeting almost twice a week with friends. We got along like a house on fire; it felt so comfortable talking to each other, it was like we were long lost friends. The initial courtship felt more like a game of hide and seek. We didn’t want to tell people yet as we were still getting to know each other.

Must-have vanity box essentials

BB CREAM

It works as a skincare (moisturiser) product and serves as a foundation tool. “It also provides your skin with sun protection,” says make-up artist Charmaine Rao Soares, who suggests, “BB Creams are best applied with fingers as they give the most natural and skin-like finish.”

FOUNDATION AND COMPACT

An even skin tone and a flawless finish can only be achieved with a perfect base and so, a good foundation and compact are vital. “It is important to opt for a good hydrating foundation that matches well with your complexion. For long-lasting effect, use a similar coloured compact,” recommends Sushma Khan, national creative director – makeup, Lakmé Salon.

CONCEALER

Designed to hide any problem areas, a concealer is one of the most important products to have in your make-up bag. Stafford Braganza for L’Oréal Paris recommends choosing a concealer shade that is half a shade below your natural skin tone. He shares, “The best way to cover up your dark circles is to choose a shade as close to the colour of your skin in this area. Make sure you apply the concealer to the under eye area (read:dark circles) by tapping your finger lightly on it and spreading the product towards the bottom without leaving any deposits. Then apply to your T-zone (nose and chin) for an even finish.”

BLUSH

The humble blush remains an underrated, yet vital part of your beauty box. Instrumental in adding warmth and a natural flush to your cheeks, a good blush in a complementary hue can instantly add health and glow to your bridal look. Soares suggests you apply blush from the hairline near your ear horizontally across your cheek—not diagonally or downward—until you get to the centre of your face. “This lifts the face and makes it more youthful,” she states.

MASCARA

Many beauty experts peg mascara to be a gamechanger that can instantly elevate your eye make-up. Make-up expert Braganza points: “Always apply mascara on clean lashes;never apply it on top of an existing coat of mascara. The best way to apply mascara is to start at the root of the lashes. Using a zigzag movement, glide the brush up the lashes from root to tip.”And then there’s Braganza’s cardinal rule:never sleep with your mascara on.

KAJAL

Also known as surma or kohl, kajal has always been integral to Indian make-up. And so, it’s not surprising that it features in the list of must-have products. Nothing defines and draws attention to a girl’s eye like a line of kajal.“Indian women are blessed with beautiful eyes and so, adding a line of kajal to your lower waterline will add dimension to your eyes. If you want to opt for a majestic look, apply a slightly thicker line,” advises Khan.

THE CLASSIC RED LIPSTICK

Beauty experts are of the opinion that a red lipstick is hands down a make-up box essential. If you’re a young bride-to-be, who wishes to rock a bold bridal look, this universally flattering, classic hue will only amplify your confidence and lend a powerful look. If you like to make a bold and chic beauty statement, you better give in to this scarlet fervour.

PRESSED POWDER

Designed to reduce excess shine on your face, pressed power is a must in adding finishing touches to your makeup. Soares shares, “It is all you need to set your make-up in place. Moreover, it can be used on its own to reduce any excess shine that appears through the day (read: for whenever you need to touch up your make-up). It can be applied with a sponge for full coverage or with a brush for lighter coverage.”
