About Me
Kalki through the looking-glass

As we entered Amy Billimoria’s House of Design in Juhu, Mumbai, we knew we were not in Kansas anymore. The store exudes a happy feeling. From the décor of the store to the clothes housed within it, we could tell that this was going to be a departure from a traditional bridal makeover.

About Me
Sonam and Paras Modi share their marriage mantra…

We met at a common friend’s wedding in Lonavla, after which we started meeting almost twice a week with friends. We got along like a house on fire; it felt so comfortable talking to each other, it was like we were long lost friends. The initial courtship felt more like a game of hide and seek. We didn’t want to tell people yet as we were still getting to know each other.

Why are centrepieces huge at Indian weddings?

Ever wondered why centrepieces go on to become the centre of attention at a wedding? Read on to find out why

While planning a wedding, one would put a considerable amount of thought in deciding on the centrepiece – its size, the flowers to be incorporated and its palette. After all, the centrepiece is what defines the wedding décor and becomes a focus of conversation among the guests.

Set the tone

Centrepieces are one of the integral parts of the wedding décor. It sets the theme of the wedding and the mood for celebrations. Apart from flowers, centrepieces are also made of candies, fruit and vegetable carvings, or candles. In some weddings, floral centrepieces placed in portable vases or cans, or centrepieces made of boxes of sweets stacked up to resemble a multi-tier cake are given away as favours. After all, who doesn’t want keepsakes from the most memorable weddings they have attended?

Multiple options to choose from

Textural green centrepieces are a beautiful way to include the outdoors in your ceremonies. Ghotage shares, “A beautifully arranged floral centrepiece would any day win over a larger more expensive one. And if it is a destination wedding, it becomes important to enhance and make the most of the natural beauty of the venue.” Bhavnesh Sawhney, director of Wedniksha feels that wedding centrepieces have the ability to transform the look and feel of a wedding, and huge centrepieces are going to be in the spotlight at celebrations this season. He says, “There are tons of options to pick from—for instance, a towering floral display or even a simple rustic arrangement of foliage. A centrepiece can have a potpourri of flowers in various containers and candles in glass or on candlesticks. Centrepieces lend a visual appeal to the table and make for a beautiful table-scape.”

Why should you craft your centrepieces right away?

Although centrepieces have been an element of attraction in Indian weddings for quite some time, it is apparent that the trend has been picked up from the West. Centrepieces are known to carry a sense of royalty and make even the smallest and simplest wedding functions look grand. Whether made of flowers or food, a centrepiece that adheres to the colour palette of the wedding has always inspired the guests to incorporate one in their festivities too.

With these dynamics in mind, what’s holding you back from designing an unforgettable centrepiece for your wedding?
