About Me
Kalki through the looking-glass

As we entered Amy Billimoria’s House of Design in Juhu, Mumbai, we knew we were not in Kansas anymore. The store exudes a happy feeling. From the décor of the store to the clothes housed within it, we could tell that this was going to be a departure from a traditional bridal makeover.

About Me
Sonam and Paras Modi share their marriage mantra…

We met at a common friend’s wedding in Lonavla, after which we started meeting almost twice a week with friends. We got along like a house on fire; it felt so comfortable talking to each other, it was like we were long lost friends. The initial courtship felt more like a game of hide and seek. We didn’t want to tell people yet as we were still getting to know each other.

The grooming countdown for groom

Fret not grooms-to-be, we give you an all-inclusive grooming calendar; a potential things-to-do list before your D-Day

6 MONTHS BEFORE: OVERALL HEALTH AND  FITNESS

Dos:

✔ Visit a nutritionist and join a workout programme that works for you.

✔ Concentrate on your skin. Find a regime that suits you and stick to it till your wedding day.

✔ Stay hydrated.

Don’t:

✘ Stay out too much in the sun and if you have to, then make sure to use ample amount of sunscreen.

3 MONTHS BEFORE: COSMETIC TREATMENTS

Dos:

✔ Visit a dermatologist or a cosmetologist for a consultation to understand how to attain a healthy glow on your wedding day.

✔ This is the best time to get any treatments that might have a longer recovery period or that might need more sittings; for example, laser hair removal, chemical peels, etc.

✔ Experiment with your look; see what works and what doesn’t, maybe grow a beard.

Don’t:

✘ Ignore your hair— start doing regular hair treatments and go in for trims regularly to keep your hair healthy.

1 MONTH BEFORE: BASIC WELLNESS AND RELAXATION

Dos:

✔ Go in for regular massages after your workout to rejuvenate.

✔ Gift yourself a spa day to rejuvenate.

✔ You can go for an upscale trim a month before your wedding day, so that even if it does not suit you, it will grow back.

✔ Go for your workouts regularly.

Don’ts:

✘ Stress: it will make you look dull. If you have a bout of acne around this time, opt for a spa treatment or visit a dermatologist.

✘ Avoid heavy smoking and drinking during this time.

2 WEEKS BEFORE: REJUVENATION

Dos:

✔ Concentrate on your water intake—cleansing the system should be your immediate concern; try green tea, fresh juices and coconut water.

✔ A good cut and style is an absolute must for the groom and should ideally be done two weeks prior to the wedding.

Don’ts:

✘ Experiment with something radical—be it products or a look. Stick to what suits you best.

✘ Get any invasive cosmetic treatments.

✘ Give up on your sleep—it is extremely important to get as much sleep as you can.

1 WEEK BEFORE: FINAL TOUCHES

Dos:

✔ Try a detox/cleanse regime just to flush out the toxins.

✔ Stick to the skincare routine for these seven days leading up to your wedding.

✔ Get manicures and pedicures.

✔ Meet with your hairstylist for final highlights and hair shaping. In addition to quality hair care, you will need to choose hairstyling products to create the perfect style.

✔ Go in for your last-minute facials, for that ooh-la-la glow.

Don’ts:

✘ Avoid consuming alcohol during this time; or at least keep a tab on the intake.

✘ Binge on unhealthy food.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:

  • It’s important to feel good about yourself and therefore, spend time grooming yourself
  • To look your best for your wedding, ideally start planning ahead and stick to your treatment and homecare plan
  • Even if you have left it to the last moment, there are treatments that can give you a dramatic transformation, so do not postpone your visit to a skin specialist
  • Regular trimming of hair is necessary when the wedding day is round the corner. Make it a point to go for a trim every 15 days so that there is scope for fresh and healthy hair growth
  • Everything is good in moderation. Enjoy, but know your limits; that way, you will enjoy every day of the wedding and not feel run down or tired
