Fresh-faced and sexy is the mantra make-up artist Florian Hurel followed when it came to dolling up Pooja Hegde for our Jan 2017 cover. Here’s all you need to know to ace this look
The Confident Bride
Aiming to channel a vintage-chic vibe, Hurel comments,“Often, strong eyes and strong lips are highlighted simultaneously to complement each other, with the result that neither the eyes nor the lips celebrate the woman’s real beauty. I opted to keep Pooja’s lips the main talking point of this story. I think somebody as beautiful as Pooja can pull off the minimal make-up look. The deconstructed messy hair, slight eye contouring and opulent lip hue made for, what I hope is, a confident and less-than-conventional Indian bride.” Hurel didn’t want to create the typical runaway bride, but a runaway bride who has arrived in every sense of the word.
Fashion Meets Beauty
Bowled over by the opulence and sophistication of the cover ensemble, Hurel notes,“It’s a true craftsman, who can bring faux fur back to the centre of fashion, especially on the bridal turf. As the make-up and hair needed to do justice to the look, I chose an opulent-looking yet young lip to add the right dose of creativity to the overall image.”

2017 Bride, Take Note
Hurel warns brides-to-be against a major faux pas he’s come to observe over the years.“Make sure your photographer and make-up artist talk to each other,” Hurel advises, elaborating,“If they do not get along well or are not on the same page during your wedding, you will notice the consequences of that in your wedding photos. Personally, I always introduce myself to the wedding photographer, so I understand his or her lighting and they understand my make-up.This will make the biggest difference to your photos.”Additionally, Hurel is a strong advocate of destination weddings.“Firstly, it makes for the most amazing experience. Secondly, regardless of your makeup, you will shine,” he signs off.
