Say ‘I do’ to your health, the natural way. Follow these simple tips to plan a safe and healthy pre-wedding fitness regimen
One wedding genus that syncs perfectly with an eco-conscious mindset is a nature-friendly workout. Nothing works better than the raw, fresh appeal of the great outdoors and employing natural mediums to facilitate your health graph for the better before your big day. With crowds of people inducting themselves into the ‘green movement’, to-be-weds have opted to hop onto the ecological bandwagon and are taking significant steps to make their fitness regimes natural with the smallest environmental impact.
An organic bite
Organic fare (read: fruits, vegetables) is cultivated in nutrient-rich soil sans the utilisation of pesticides or other harmful paraquats and involves minimal amounts of bio-engineered genes. This unique form of agriculture boasts of manifold health benefits and today, the demand for organic food has witnessed an ascent of sorts. Food produced by organic farming do not contain modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. With the growing variety, availability and affordability of organic food, you can easily enjoy a different and delicious organic meal every day of the week.
“An organic diet facilitates weight loss by providing a good amount of protein, vitamins and antioxidants, an important food source for weight loss. Organic food aids in increasing muscle strength, bone density and muscle mass in the body, leading to muscles burning more calories. Also, it increases the food digestion capacity compared to nonorganic food,” shares Vinod Channa, celebrity fitness trainer.
Switching to organic produce can also help you live longer, healthier and slimmer. Drinking water, exercising, and eating organic food is the mantra Kasturi Padhye, nutritionist, swears by when it comes to getting fit the natural way. She says, “What organic food has to offer is not something like a super-miracle diet plan whereby you can just shed a couple of kilos in a single day, but the long-term effects are profound and the results start to appear as you move on progressively. Organic diets can actually work hand-in-hand to complement your weight loss programme and help you in achieving better results.
Inorganic fruits, vegetables have traces of pesticides; even chicken is sometimes injected with hormones that can adversely affect your hormonal levels on consumption and make fat-loss difficult. Switching to organic food reduces the chemical intake and helps in restoring your body’s natural hormonal balance. “Although switching to organics may not help you lose weight if it is the only step you take, by reducing your body’s level of insulin resistance, it can help you lose weight more easily when combined with other diet and lifestyle changes,” advices Kasturi.
The new-age organic supplements
Sometimes, brides- and grooms-to-be on a tight schedule indulge in dietary supplements (enhancers or boosters). So, are there any healthy organic substitutes for the same? Kasturi explains, “Fat burning supplements usually, to an extent, do what they say they will. But the means the drugs employ to do so involve manipulating the body’s natural processes, sometimes to a severe degree. Side-effects are also common. Anyone with any sort of pre-existing heart, hormonal or digestive condition should seriously consider avoiding fat burning supplements. For other people, it remains a personal choice, but one that should be made with a certain degree of wariness. Instead, have extra servings of organic green tea, broccoli, mushroom, cabbage, cauliflower, oatmeal, berries, all of which are natural fat burners as they increase metabolism.” She further adds, “Do not consider crash diets, they could make you fall sick. No matter if you have six months, three months or one month of prep time, you must include exercise and healthy, portion-controlled eating. Those two components along with hydration, adequate sleep and minimal stress are the pillars of ensuring you meet your wedding day weight loss goal.”
Why go natural?
“Due to the natural way of production, we get the required amount of protein from organic food. There are no side-effects of pesticides and chemicals. Avoid non-organic food and stay away from diseases like cancer, blood pressure, cholesterol and fat-related problems,” answers Vinod.
Every bride- and groom-to-be wants to look perfect on the big day. Dieting is always tough, but tougher when you have the added pressure of planning your wedding. Remember there are no shortcuts to getting fit, but getting fit naturally although may seem slower, guarantees that svelte look.
