About Me
Kalki through the looking-glass

As we entered Amy Billimoria’s House of Design in Juhu, Mumbai, we knew we were not in Kansas anymore. The store exudes a happy feeling. From the décor of the store to the clothes housed within it, we could tell that this was going to be a departure from a traditional bridal makeover.

About Me
Sonam and Paras Modi share their marriage mantra…

We met at a common friend’s wedding in Lonavla, after which we started meeting almost twice a week with friends. We got along like a house on fire; it felt so comfortable talking to each other, it was like we were long lost friends. The initial courtship felt more like a game of hide and seek. We didn’t want to tell people yet as we were still getting to know each other.

Brides get summer-ready!

From pop prints to sunny hues, here’s some expert advice on the hautest bridal ensembles to slip on this summer

A Crop Top And A Lehenga Skirt

Why it’s haute : The concept of wearing a crop top over a lehenga skirt works perfectly for a resort wedding. The detailed and extensive weaving of the lehenga replaces garish-looking ornate embroidery, while the basic top in a solid colour allows you to accentuate your jewellery. As a whole, this look is perfectly comfortable to pull off for a summer do as it exudes a modish yet elegant feel.

A Jumpsuit

Why it’s haute : A jumpsuit, although a western silhouette, can be turned into a perfect ensemble this summer with the right accessories. It’s comfortable, luxe and super chic—perfect for the modern bride. A jumpsuit always makes a strong statement and can be styled to suit the Indian bride with an embroidered or embellished jacket with the perfect jewellery to complement the look.

The Perfect Jacket

Why it’s haute : Jackets are an integral part of a bride’s trousseau as they beautifully complement almost any ensemble and help add a touch of sophistication. They’re slimming and can be worn in multiple ways; we recommend wearing them open allowing the lapels to hang loose in a laidback manner. Never roll up the sleeves of a jacket and make sure it fits well.

A Lehenga Sari

Why it’s haute : A lehenga sari adds a modern twist to the contemporary bride. You can accessorise this look with flowers or jewellery—diamonds or gold. A lehenga sari with effectively used floral prints and drapes set with 3D embroidery detailing makes for a perfect summer ensemble. The outfit will have the bride looking feminine, delicate and bold—in other words, an absolute head-turner.

A Bold Printed Dress

Why it’s haute : There’s nothing lovelier than a summer bride dressed in an outfit that has splashes of colour and oomph. Vibrant clothes work perfectly well for a bright, summer wedding, especially when accessorised with some ornate statement Indian jewellery. Quirky prints and designs in Indian silhouettes make for fun picks this season. And like I always say, the world is your runway; make some jaws drop.

Sheer Everything

Why it’s haute : While a sari is a classic must-have when it comes to the bridal trousseau, another great addition this summer would be a sheer sleeve, off-shoulder crop cami with high-waisted palazzo pants in soft or bright tone-on-tone colours. Select looks that are low on embellishment therefore, giving you the option of either dressing it up with statement jewellery and accessories or keeping it minimal. Summer fashion is all about having fun with colours and trendy silhouettes.

Flower Power

Why it’s hauteFor summer weddings, floral lehengas in silk mul with little mirror lifting and crop cholis work well. Breathable fabrics and fun prints make this a great combination for the summer. Also, what works really well are lehengas or palazzo pants with a bandeau choli and a tulle cape in soothing pastel colours.
