Looking for new ways to bond with your partner? Choose from our list of five fun online classes that you and your partner can enjoy together
The lockdown has allowed us to spend more time with our significant other without the barrage of work calls, long meetings, and late hours at the office. Yet, with only the company of each other, discussions may eventually reduce to what to eat and whose turn it is to do the laundry. After having exhausted all topics of conversation, you may even end up re-watching your favourite TV shows. But, if you are looking to use this time to learn something new or try something you have always wanted to as a couple, we’ve curated a list of five classes for you to join and enjoy!
The food life
If date night is approaching, tune into a live cooking session for couples on Instagram or YouTube or join an online class. Many chefs and home cooks are posting videos of themselves cooking with their partner using simple ingredients available at home. Keep an eye out for their live session announcements, and with your beau, have a gala time preparing a fun meal that you can devour with some good music and mood lighting. Some great free online options to learn cooking include TheKitchn, Skillshare and Dinner Tonight.
If you were ever bitten by the acting bug, now is the time to unveil your talent and hone your skills. Sign up for an online acting class and learn different techniques that you can practise with your partner. From drama and romance to sci-fi, experiment with the genres you both love. In fact, you can script your own skits and upload them online for the world to see! You can find many free classes on YouTube, Skillshare or even Udemy.
Strictly come dancing
Make optimum use of your living room space by joining an online dance class. Whether you and your partner have wanted to foray into ballroom dancing or simply learn tango, there is no dearth of options online. With time not an issue anymore, put on your dancing shoes, clear out your space, and just have fun. YouTubers and choreographers are uploading tutorials of their most popular routines; some even include their attempts at new styles of dance. Not only will dancing get your heart pumping, the subsequent endorphin rush will help you and your partner bond. In fact, you can even participate in the many couple dance challenges online and attempt different dance styles—from Bollywood to hip hop. Some free options include Ballroom Dancers and Learn to Dance. You can always refer to YouTube for more series.
Language no bar
For your upcoming overseas adventures, learn the language of the place you plan on visiting. Learn to ask for directions in French or for landmarks to visit in Swahili. The internet is flooded with courses such as those on Coursera and Duolingo, and even individuals who are willing to teach you the language. Besides this, you can use social media platforms to find a local teacher or native for a personalised teaching experience. Engage in conversation in the foreign language with your significant other. Not only is it fun, but it also helps you improve your spoken language and remember vocabulary better. In fact, try and spend a whole day speaking in a foreign language as an interesting challenge!
Art upon my sleeve
Get messy with some paper and glue as you join an online arts and crafts class such as those on Bluprint or Skillshare. As you attempt to recreate the piece of art, you won’t even notice the day go by. This is a great activity not just for couples but families as well. The one thing we can swear by is that you will be creating an everlasting memory—literally and figuratively—as you pull up your sleeves and get crafting! Want to make it more fun? Try painting a portrait of your partner and revel in the results—you may enjoy a good laugh or be absolutely fascinated by your partner’s abilities.
